Decorating for Christmas
I love the colors of Christmas and it is often my joy to see how people decorate their homes. I watch Christmas movies and get amazed at how the homes look and often wonder if the extravagant ones are done by teams of people or one person?
I've lived in an apartment for a while and I tell myself why go all out to decorate if you’d be putting all those items down? Where would you store them? Secretly, it’s more of, how do I decorate and where would I begin?
In the past, we set up a tree and put ornaments on it. With little ones around, it’s tiresome to keep chasing them away from the tree (do I have any witnesses?) So I just put a couple ornaments up and call it done!
I remember Christmas at our grandparents home in Nigeria and even though there was no snow, grandparents did their best to decorate and it was beautiful! We looked forward to being there and spending time with them was the icing on the cake!
With the memories I have, and cherish, would my boys grow up saying: mommy didn’t do anything for Christmas? Would I be called The Grinch’s 2nd cousin?
I am going to change that.
Thankful for good ol’ Pinterest and YouTube! I looked up decorating for the holidays and got inspired. I decided to start on the outside and I went I bought things to make a wreath. My oldest son likes to help and together we made color choices, and I assembled the wreath.
For his take on a wreath, we used an empty pizza box from Domino’s and some pompoms from Hobby Lobby and I think we had some Elmer’s glue at home to make this image below.
I used my fabric roller cutter to get the round shape and he glued the pompoms onto the cut cardboard box.
Ps, do not forget to use a mat when you’re cutting- I forgot and left marks on the table, (and I think, it might dull the blade) I fixed that quickly and got my mat.
For my turn,
I used holiday ribbons, chenille stems aka pipe cleaners, scissors, the wreath base and YouTube 😎
We got holiday colors and with it being my first time doing this, I was not sure how it would turn out. One thing I would do next time I make another wreath is make sure the ribbons were of the same texture- the ones I got kept “catching” on the edges. This made it so difficult to pull the 2nd and first layers out of the bubble I was making, I didn’t try fighting with it. I just left it the way it was when I got done covering the wreath base with ribbon.
I was satisfied with the end result and even lil man approved it too!
If you’d like to try to make a wreath, look up Jkatskreations Wreaths. She is the one I followed as I made this.
Have you made a wreath before?
Let me know in rhe comments!
Have a great week!
