Life Lessons from watching Sing 2
I have watched Sing 2 more times than I watched the first one.
Have you watched it?
Without giving spoilers, here is what I learned as I watched with my kiddos
1. Mrs Pig- Rosita: be afraid, but get it done. Mommy can have it all with support- when her husband supported her, she bloomed and blossomed
2. Mr. Buster Moon- I loved his response: I'm not a loser; we came here to do what we were supposed to do”. We didn't fail... don’t let someone who doesn't know you define who you are and tell you what you are not. Always believe in yourself and your ability to do great things.
3. Mr Clay Calloway- life can be hard sometimes, but we must still live. God help us know when to get up from pain and let people in our lives help us stand up tall when we cannot do so alone.
4. Porcupine- don't settle. You're worthy, made in God's image, and if anyone thinks otherwise, please move on. Trying to convince people to see things your way or the way you are is no use. If they cannot see it, it is time to move on.
5. The Chameleon: she is unique- she knows when to nurture and put her foot down and when to teach and encourage.
6. The Gorilla - Johnny and the Benobo monkey relationship- jealousy at its finest. We still overcome, no matter who our teachers are. Get emotional. Don't settle. Get help, and you will succeed
7. The street dancing cat- Nooshy- don't be afraid, life hands you lemons, make lemonade
8. The Wolf's daughter, Porsha: I'd say she had never been told the truth; when she was, she overreacted. When she finally came to, she grew and became a part of something bigger than just being her father's daughter- a rich, spoiled brat!
9. Don't hate the truth; it makes life hard if we cannot stomach some truth or positive or negative criticism.
10. Gupta- you have to love his perspective about life- he believed he could do anything, and that confidence came from his momma speaking life to him.
11. Alphonso- the elephant singing with Gina and the beauty of hard work and kindness, too. Encouraging others
And we will not forget the one who inspired Mr Moon and told him not to give up on himself- Nana. She believed in him and saw potential even when he gave up on himself.
So Parents
- We need to tell the kids the truth- Porsha, the wolf's daughter, had everything, and Mr. Wolf ensured he gave her what he thought she deserved. Is that showing love, or could that be a way of telling our kids, I do not think you can succeed on your own; let me step in…
She and her dad had a weird dynamic; he absent-mindedly told Buster to give her the role, and she did not shine. It is okay to let our kids fail. If we teach them how to get up and have faith in their God-given talents, they become stronger and man- they can touch the sky!
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men- Proverbs 18:16
Work hard, use your gifts, shine, and make the world a better and more beautiful place because you are in it!
Have a great weekend.
